Problem Note 31483: Your SAS® session might stop responding or errors might be written to the SAS log when using the SGPLOT, SGPANEL, or SGRENDER procedure
Your SAS session might stop responding or require excessive time to complete the task when executing the SAS/GRAPH® SGPLOT, SGPANEL, or SGRENDER procedure. This issue is most likely to occur when referencing large data sets, but can happen with small data sets as well.
In addition, with SAS® 9.2, the following error might be written to the SAS log:
Error: Java virtual machine exception: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError.
With SAS® 9.3, the following errors might be written to the SAS log:
Error: Internal error in Java extension NewStringUTF().
Error: Internal error in Java extension FindClass().
Error: The Java classloader initialization failed.
To circumvent the problem, specify the NOCYCLEATTRS option in the PROC SGPLOT or PROC SGPANEL statement, as in the following examples:
proc sgplot data=your-data-set nocycleattrs;
proc sgpanel data=your-data-set nocycleattrs;
In cases where the data set is extremely large, include the LINEATTRS=(PATTERN=SOLID) option in the SERIES statement, as in the following example:
proc sgplot data=your-data-set nocycleattrs;
series x=xvar y=yvar / group=groupvar lineattrs=(pattern=solid);
run;
To circumvent the problem with PROC SGRENDER, do one of the following:
- Specify the CYCLEATTRS=FALSE option in the LAYOUT statement in your PROC TEMPLATE code.
- Include the LINEATTRS=(PATTERN=SOLID) option in all of the SERIESPLOT statements in your PROC TEMPLATE code.
